Animal Technician 1, 2, or 3 (Open Rank) Available Title(s): 525E-YN_CS_NPS - Animal Technician 1, 525F-YN_CS_NPS - Animal Technician 2, 525G-YN_CS_NPS - Animal Technician 3 Business Title: Animal Technician 1, 2, or 3 (Open Rank) Employee Type: Classified Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: The Opportunity: The Office of the Campus Veterinarian is seeking candidates for an TWO FULL-TIME Animal Technicians.
In this role, you will perform a variety of duties related to the care of vivarium animals, general animal husbandry, and support of vivarium users in the Integrated Vivarium Services (IVS) Unit on the WSU Pullman campus.
You will have the opportunity to assist with different aspects of animal care, which include but are not limited to animal health observations, routine minor medical treatment, and health maintenance of animals such as nail trims and administration of oral and topical medications, feeding and watering, cage changing & cleaning, custodial care of animal rooms and support areas, record keeping, cage washing, and waste removal.
You may also be responsible for the maintenance of rodent breeding colonies, quarantining of animals, and assisting with technical procedures.
Animal technicians in the IVS unit work with rodents (rats & mice), rabbits, livestock, and aquatic species (fish, turtles, frogs).

Depending on your level of experience, you may begin as an Animal Technician 1, Animal Technician 2, or Animal Technician 3.
Required Qualifications: Animal Technician 1 Physical ability to do required work; ability to read and write.
Animal Technician 2 One year of experience as an Animal Technician 1; OR equivalent education/experience.
Animal Technician 3 Two years of experience as an Animal Technician 2; OR equivalent education/experience.
Required Qualifications for All: Physical ability to do required work and essential functions; ability to read and write in English.
Be 18 years or older.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Possession of or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to follow detailed directions and pay close attention to detail.
Must be able to travel drive distance to pick up animal shipments from regional airports.

Must be able to drive 1- ton lift gate truck with manual transmission.
Must be able to wear respiratory protective equipment if necessary based on research needs, occupational health and safety requirements, and requirements set by WSU biosafety officer.
Must abstain from wearing scented products or using scented products at work due to the sensitivity of the animals and research.
Must be able to work a rotating schedule that could include weekends, after hours and holidays as needed and directed by supervisor.
This is an essential position, and the employee will be expected to report to work under conditions that other employees are not required to report to work, such as inclement weather and WSU suspended operations.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior husbandry experience with a wide range of animal species and working with animals in a research or teaching institution.
AALAS Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level.
