The Opportunity:
The Department of History at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We will hire a historian with a specialization in race and popular culture, focused on the Caribbean diaspora to North American metropolitan areas, with a strong preference for those looking at comparative immigrant communities.
You should also have experience using digital technologies to communicate your work.
You must demonstrate your commitment to underrepresented communities through research, service, teaching, public history projects, and/or community engagement.
Ideally, this will take the form at least in part through collaborations with student organizations that serve minoritized student populations.
It is anticipated that you will begin August 16, 2024.
Job Duties: The workload of this position is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service.
Teach two courses per semester (a 2-2 load).
Teach upper and lower division undergraduate and graduate courses in United States, immigration, Caribbean, and African American history, and develop courses in their area of research specialization.
Contribute to the department's graduate program and to the undergraduate Roots of Contemporary Issues course.
Maintain an active research program.
Participate in service at the departmental, college, university, and campus level.
Required Qualifications: Completed PhD in history with emphasis in the history of North American race relations, immigration, and/or popular culture by hire date.
Evidence of a well-defined research agenda with emphasis on the history of the Caribbean diaspora to North American metropolitan areas using a comparative approach.
Demonstrated teaching experience in the US history survey, North American immigration history, popular culture, Caribbean history, writing for history majors, and intensive graduate seminars.
Demonstrated record of or potential for commitment to underrepresented communities and student groups and to campus and university diversity, equity and inclusion efforts including collaborations with student organizations.
