DEFINITION OF POSITION: Teach students, write Individual Education Programs, provide academic instruction, collect/analyze data, create goals, implement behavior and social emotional strategies, and provide supervision to paraeducator staff as it relates to instruction within general classroom and special education program settings IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possess or ability to possess a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement Knowledge and experience regarding positive behavior and social emotional teaching/strategies Successful teaching, substituting, and/or student teaching experience with students with special needs PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of collaborative teaching experience working with paraeducators Successful experience working with behaviorally and emotionally challenged students Knowledge of and/or experience with Common Core State Standards and Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium Experience working with IEP online Experience working with research-based curriculum Knowledge of and/or experience with Washington Alternative Assessment (WA-AIM) ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES: Understand special education law, IDEA, and Section 504 Plan and provide an individualized program for students with a wide range of disabilities (behavior and social emotional/ASD spectrum) Assess students using standardized assessment tools as well as state assessments and alternative assessment such as WA-AIM Establish learning goals and objectives consistent with the results of assessment and learning needs of students Coordinate individual student programs with other district personnel, parents, and community members relevant to program development Work effectively with behaviorally and/or emotionally challenged children Manage a structured learning environment/special education classroom Implement a system of accountability and program monitoring Coordinate communication activities with parents, students, and school personnel Coordinate and plan transition activities Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing Supervise and provide training, guidance and direction for paraeducators Be a positive team member who works collaboratively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies, etc.
) Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work Maintain confidentiality Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance Work with minimal supervision and be flexible Address student hygiene needs Perform other related duties as assigned TERMS OF CONTRACT: Salary: $30,820 - $58,090, placement based on experience and level of education Length of Contract: Leave replacement position beginning January 8, 2024 through June 14, 2024 Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.
Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).
Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District.
