Position Summary:
The position performs a variety of accounting activities that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables and payables, to more complex duties such as reconciling accounts and resolving accounting problems.
Duties may include:
Processing, updating and maintaining various routine accounting records and documents
Preparing accounting statements, billing documents and financial reports
Entering, retrieving and maintaining data on computerized accounting system
Responding to customer inquiries
Reconciling / analyzing accounting records for accuracy and completeness
Assisting with researching and solving accounting problems
Assisting with determining proper classification and coding of income and expenditures
Assisting in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and University policy and procedures
Assisting customers with University policies and procedures or make referrals as necessary
Collecting and recording payments; issuing receipts
Preparing and making daily bank deposits and managing change funds
Taking necessary action to resolve customer problems or discrepancies
Interacting with internal and external auditors and participating in auditing projects
May process, update and maintain various complex transactions
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalency
Two years full-time experience providing financial or business process support within established policies and procedures, including interpreting and applying policies and procedures to practical situations.
Experience using computerized accounting systems or spreadsheet software to compile financial information, prepare summaries and reports.
A Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance may substitute for the above work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a customer service / support role
One year shipping experience following Department of Transportation regulations
Two years of warehousing or production experience
Knowledge of and/or training on state and federal property disposal guidelines
Forklift operator certification
Experience with governmental fund accounting with an emphasis on Fixed Asset Management
Experience working in a complex, decentralized accounting environment
Completion of at least one college-level accounting course with a preference for an Associates Degree or higher in accounting or finance
